Fence Materials

Repeated use does not lead to loss of consumer properties, which is an attractive quality for the installation of temporary or movable fences.

Invisible from a certain distance, the steel wire makes it difficult for animals to develop a reflex that keeps them from approaching the fence. Fencing elements based on polymeric materials are much more noticeable, since they are painted in catchy colors and have a larger size. The animal quickly perceives the established border and does not try to cross it; it is easier for it to maintain a safe distance.

Power supply

To ensure its functions, the electric fence must be connected to a power source. Depending on the configuration and purpose of use, they differ. The most common is the use of a conventional connection to a household power line. The product kit must include a current or voltage converter giving the necessary output parameters.

The power consumption is affected by the distance between the extreme points of the network, voltage, wire diameter and losses in the enclosure itself.

Power sources such as batteries or solar converters are used. This allows you to use an electric fence away from communications, which more fully meets the needs of animal husbandry. However, autonomous sources have their obvious drawbacks. Solar converters depend on illumination and will not work in the dark. Batteries must be kept charged, which can be difficult.

Lightning protection and grounding

An energized fence becomes vulnerable to lightning discharges. Lightning protection of the electric fence is carried out by installing a special breaker that turns off the power source with a sharp increase in load. Sometimes an electric fence needs to be grounded.

Depending on the environmental conditions and the design of the fence, it is carried out using recessed metal pins or tires. In some designs of hedges, grounding wires are not earthed, and the neutral wire is located in the lower tier. The distance to the working wire is recommended about thirty centimeters.

After each row, a gasket consisting of condenser paper must be laid and then continue wrapping in the other direction.

When your coil is completely ready, it will be necessary to soak it with paraffin. To do this, melt in a clean jar, for example, from a canned small piece of a candle and lower the coil into it. Hold it in molten paraffin for two or three minutes, then remove and let the coil dry. Then it is required to put the windings on the core very carefully, and grease the ends of the ferrites with glue Moment and tighten with a thread bandage.

Assembly is best carried out by hanging mounting on a getinax or fiberglass plate with a size of 100 by 150 mm. The transistor VT1 must be placed on a radiator with an area of ​​about 100 cm2. To develop such an electric fence, you can use different types of wire - copper, aluminum or galvanized steel wire, which will be at least 1 mm in diameter.

The wire must be pulled between the racks - wooden stake, spaced every 25 m. Under the insulators you can use plastic bottles (or glass), which are put on the racks with a neck (Fig. 2). Wrap the wire around the neck of each bottle and make sure that it does not touch the bushes or tall grass.

Place the device near the fence to ensure reliable contact of the second wire (plus power supply) with the ground. Use a metal pin to ground that digs into the ground, or bury a metal sheet to a depth of 1 meter.

If you did everything right and all the details are working, then the electric fence should immediately work. What needs to be done is to achieve maximum voltage from the generator. This can be done with variable resistors R1 and R2. The magnitude of the voltage can be judged by the distance that is pierced by the spark between the electrodes.

Such an “Electric Shepherd” allows you to fence an area of ​​5 to 10 hectares. Since this is an electrical installation, it is not allowed to touch exposed parts and wires.

Therefore, it is best if you install warning signs next to the fence so that casual passers-by or children will not be hurt. In a thunderstorm, such a device must be turned off, and the fence should be grounded.

How to make an electric fence with your own hands

If you have certain skills, this will not be difficult. Consider this by the example of manufacturing a single-wire fence. This is the easiest, but at the same time the best option for fencing the grazing area.

This cattle shepherd is made using metal poles. Of course, you can use wood, but metal is more convenient for mounting the structure. One end of the column must be sharpened, and the other cut the thread. Insulators are screwed onto the thread, which serve to pull the power line. The length of such a line is usually about 2000 meters.

Recommended pillar length is 120 centimeters. At the pointed end you need to weld a small crossbar. When mounting the structure, it will be possible to press on this crossbar with the foot, and the pole will be easier to enter the ground. It is recommended to install poles every ten meters.
